April 2024
April was a very busy month at St. Augustine Home! The weather is improving and the Residents have stayed busy with many activities.
To mark National Scrabble Day, the afternoon of April 13 was set aside for an in-house Tournament among Residents and volunteers. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that St Augustine’s is home to a number of serious Scrabble players – at least one of them over 90 years of age!
Residents were again entertained with the St. Augustine Home Guild Annual Happy Days, a 1950’s and 1960’s music party, complete with ice cream floats, music, and Karaoke with the Residents.
Emily Mingus, our Music Therapist, has initiated an Intergenerational Music Therapy program for our Residents. The purpose of bringing our Residents together with children from the community is to foster a sense of comfort, happiness, and purpose in these interactions. While inviting and gathering Residents, Emily often asks them to come to ‘help the children’ and of course, the children also help our Residents by providing such joyful and unfettered interactions.
With spring and warmer weather coming, we can feel everyone’s excitement for outdoor breakfast and lunch parties with music and fun events.
